\n“This car started life at Sytner of Nottingham as a standard BMW E30 325i Sport model. It was converted by the official Alpina concessionaire Sytner, to Alpina C2 2.7 specification and became their demonstrator.
\nUnlike many, the car still has all of its original Alpina features. The standard M20B25 engine received a different \u2018hotter\u2019 cam, ported cylinder head with larger valves, the crankshaft was replaced with the stronger unit from the M21 diesel along with Mahle pistons and a specially developed exhaust system and six branch manifold, all controlled by a remapped engine management system by Alpina. This increased the capacity to 2.7ltrs and gave an increase in power to 210bhp over the 325i\u2019s standard 172bhp. This coupled with a close ratio sport gearbox and limited slip differential made for a fantastic drive. Other driveability enhancements came in the way of specially valved Bilstein dampers and Alpina springs.<\/p>\n
On the inside, the car is fitted with a replacement original Alpina early four spoke wheel and a very rare high back Recaro trim in Alpina cloth. This trim isn\u2019t original to this particular car but was a very nice upgrade performed in 2004 \u2013 more on that later. The original Alpina decal instrument cluster, dashboard identity plaque and gear knob are still present too.
\nExternally, apart from the Alpina genuine 16\u201d wheels (8j rear, 7j front), the car looks much the same as a standard early 325i sport model, aside from the C2 2.7 badging front and rear and Alpina front air dam spoiler.
\nThe previous owner had the car for two years and didn\u2019t do a large amount with it. The owner prior to that would tell a different story. Neglected and sad were words that would have described the cars condition a number of years ago. He didn\u2019t let that put him off and embarked on a monster spending spree which involved many replacement parts, panels and lots and lots of dealer invoices. The head was rebuilt at the dealer with a new replacement Alpina cam at a cost of \u00a31994.00 just to mention one of the larger bills. In July 2005 it was featured in Total BMW magazine as a finished article. Not too shabby. Since then the rust has made a comeback in the lower front and rear screens\/pillars. There is also some rust coming back in the front offside wing. Disappointing considering it was replaced not so long ago.
\nIn my ownership I have done lots of small repairs and maintenance tasks which had crept along unchecked over the past couple of years. I have also performed a full inspection II service with all fluids replaced, including gearbox oil, LSD oil, and brake and clutch fluid. The valve clearances have also been done, as has the cambelt and water pump. All with genuine BMW parts and approved additives. The MOT will be renew in the coming week, tax is until October.
\nDriving this car is a pleasure; it has power steering which is a bonus on an earlier car. The handling is tight and composed and the engine still has all its horses intact. Bodywork wise things are not so good. Look close up and the respray wasn’t so good, but serviceable. I had originally intended to reshell it and perform a concours rebuild. I went as far as to buy a 1987, 50,000 mile from new, 325i coup\u00e9 for the purpose. Best laid plans and all that; since then I have bought a C2 2.5 cabriolet which has become a sponge for my time \u2013 along with a collection of other e30 models and 2002\u2019s.
\nThe mileage is 130,000 from new, I have old MOT\u2019s and full service history including the original service book with the Sytner stamps to prove the cars authenticity. There is also an A4 ring binder full to the brim of collated receipts that add up to a frightening amount of money spent over the last few years. The only non genuine part on the car is a Viper Thatcham 1 pager alarm (with certificate).”
